The National Parliament of Solomon Islands has new Deputy Speaker.
He is the Member of Parliament for East Are Are Hon Andrew Manepora.
The position of Deputy Speaker became vacant after the Member for Central Honiara Hon Moffat Fugui was appointed as Minister for Education and Human Resources.
Speaker of Parliament Mr Ajilon Nasiu told Parliament this morning that only one candidate nominated for the Deputy Speaker position and that was Hon Manepora.
“As such, Hon Manepora stood unopposed for the position of Deputy Speaker. So on behalf of this house and its members, I wish to congratulate and welcome our new Deputy Speaker.”
Mr Nasiu said he has received Hon Manepora’s resignation letter as a political party leader in compliance with relevant legal requirements and a copy of the party’s acceptance of his resignation.
Hon Manepora was the parliamentary wing leader of Kadere Party.
