Prime Minister Hon Manasseh Sogavare has commended the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) for the significant progress it has made in its investigation into the double murder of the Chinese Solomon Islands couple in Honiara last month.

The Prime Minister’s commendation follows the successful arrest of one of the two prime suspects in the cold-blooded double murder case at the LGZ building at Town Ground.

The arrest was made after the suspect handed himself to the police with the assistance of his very own family and elders of his village of Adatolo in the Baegu region in North East Malaita.

“This first arrest is a significant breakthrough in the investigation into the case and I would like to commend the RSIPF for this accomplishment. The arrest is also a reflection of the level of trust and confidence that the RSIPF has with the general community thereby resulting the cooperation of the family.” Prime Minister Sogavare said.

He said the arrest is yet another display of professional competence by the RSIPF as it prepares for the RAMSI drawdown at the end of next month (June).

Prime Minister Sogavare also commended the family of the now detained suspect and elders of his village for doing the right thing by persuading him to surrender to the police.

“I commend the family of the now detained suspect together with the elders of his village for cooperating with the police in their investigation into the murder. Indeed you have proven yourselves to be law-abiding citizens of our country and that you have shown respect for the process of our country.”

It understood that the second suspect is still at large and the Prime Minister calls on the family and community elders of the second suspect to also assist the RSIPF to carry out its duties.
